About the Award
Solomon A. Berson, M.D., Class of 1945, was a genius. He was the undisputed father of radioimmunoassay, a most original, imaginative and truly the most important discovery in endocrinology of all times. Many other basic science and clinical disciplines have made enormous progress as a result of his discoveries. In the midst of his renown and world acclaim, he remained the true physician - humble, dedicated and immensely productive. He died at an untimely young age, but he will be remembered forever for his great contribution to the world. His life truly made a difference. New York University School of Medicine memorializes Dr. Berson by naming the three alumni achievement awards, which are presented each year at Medical Alumni Weekend, in his honor.
The Solomon A. Berson Alumni Achievement Award in Basic Science is awarded to a graduate of the NYU School of Medicine who has distinguished himself or herself by major accomplishments in fundamental scientific research.
The Solomon A. Berson Alumni Achievement Award in Clinical Science is awarded to a graduate of the NYU School of Medicine who has distinguished himself or herself by major accomplishments in clinical medical research.
The Solomon A. Berson Alumni Achievement Award in Health Science is awarded to a graduate of the NYU School of Medicine who has distinguished himself or herself by major accomplishments in advancing health care.
