Class of 1997 Bios

Edie Lederman, MD, ‘97

Edie is thoroughly enjoying her second year as an officer in CDC's Epidemic Intelligence Service; her fellowship has led her to study viral diseases in foreign lands such as Kenya (see attached picture), Republic of Congo, Bangladesh, and even Missouri. And yes, she's still "In the Navy" and will be transferring to the Naval Medical Center San Diego this summer as a staff infectious disease specialist. She is very much looking forward to seeing her classmates at this year's 10th reunion.

Sydney S. Guo MD,’97

Is a Cardiac, Vascular, & Thoracic Surgery Associates, practicing in Falls Church, VA. He writes that he “should be able to, and really wants to, make it to the reunion.”

Mridu Gulati, MD, ‘97

Is an instructor at Yale in the Pulmonary/Critical Care and Occupational /Environmental Department.

Cynthia Chuang, MD MSc ‘97

Cynthia is an Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of General Internal Medicine at the Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where most of her time is devoted to her research of reproductive health issues in women with chronic medical conditions. Last May, Cynthia and her husband, Shane, were devastated when their daughter 3 year old daughter Emma was diagnosed with stage 4 neuroblastoma. Emma's progress can be followed on her website (www.carepages.com, page name=emmalindsay). They also have a 1 year old son, Sammy.

Nicole M. Iovine, MD, PhD

After finishing my PhD in 1999 and MD in 2000, I completed a 2-year short-track residency in Internal Medicine, followed by a 3-year (long-track???) fellowship in Infectious Diseases, all at NYU. Currently I attend part-time at Bellevue but spend most of my time at the bench studying host-pathogen interactions, and plan to continue as long as I maintain my funding! However, what makes me truly happy is shown in the photo: My husband Dr. Lars K. Beattie, whom I married in Norway in 2004 (Harmony Reynolds introduced us!) and our son, Stian Challen Beattie, born June 2, 2006.
