EDWARD L. RAAB, M.D., JD, Class of 1958

I completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology following internship, military service, residency, and two years in the practice of general ophthalmology. I became director of this subspecialty at Mount Sinai School of Medicine in 1967, and have served continuously to the present time.

Career highlights include Visiting Professorships at several medical institutions in the United States and abroad; 6 teaching missions in India and Uzbekistan for ORBIS International with another assignment in China coming later this year; giving 2 named commemorative lectures; participating as a founder and director of my subspecialty society; serving as council member and chairperson of several national and local ophthalmology organizations; and examining for more than 20 years for the American Board of Ophthalmology.

I received a JD degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1994. Although not in active legal practice, I am a certified arbitrator in the New York City Small Claims Court and a member of the bars of New York and Connecticut, and remain active in Fordham’s Moot Court program.

I have been very happily married to Rosanne for 52 years. She continues to pursue her long-term interest in art as a writer, lecturer, and curator and has been responsible for several highly regarded exhibitions and publications. Her organizational skills are put to good use in our personal and family events. She has been on several of my ORBIS trips and manages to put together interesting side itineraries in these remote lands. Thanks to her planning, we have recently returned from a Galapagos adventure trip aboard a small catamaran, a far cry from a cruise ship, where we hiked, kayaked and snorkeled for 7 days.

We have 3 admirable children, all of whom are successful in their careers (none are docs), 2 esteemed in-law children, and 4 grandchildren who give us much joy. The family assembly at our second home in Deer Isle, Maine each summer is a featured event. Rosanne and I continue to play tennis year round at the West Side Tennis Club (“Forest Hills”), former site of the US Open, as well as in Maine in summer.

We are looking forward to the 50th reunion and the opportunity to renew old friendships.
